COURSE CURRICULUM

The Visual Arts program’s curriculum is designed to progressively build your technical skills and conceptual understanding through a carefully structured sequence of courses over four years. In the first year, students engage with foundational courses including Visual Arts 1090, 1091, 1150, and 1017, alongside studio courses such as Visual Arts 1010, 1030, 1050, and 1015, supported by a non-credit required course, Visual Arts 0511. Students also take one-half FCE electives from Type E and Type B course lists, providing early exposure to interdisciplinary learning. The second year focuses on more advanced studio practice with Visual Arts 2211 and 2212, complemented by two and a half FCEs from a diverse range of second-year Visual Arts courses including 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2031, 2115, 2030, and 2315. Additionally, students choose one FCE from Type B courses and a half FCE elective outside of Visual Arts to broaden their academic perspective. In the third year, the program offers specialization options with one FCE from advanced Visual Arts courses such as 2310, 3811, 3870, 3871, 4019, 4030, 4213, and 4250, while requiring two FCEs from studio-focused courses like 3011/3012, 3110, 3111, 3013/3014, 3112/3113, and 3015/3016. The curriculum also integrates one FCE from Type A courses (excluding Visual Arts) and a combination of half FCE electives from Type B and others, with flexibility to include Visual Arts electives, encouraging interdisciplinary and well-rounded study. This structure ensures a balanced development of practical skills and critical thinking necessary for artistic growth.
