COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (General Program) is a flexible three-year degree designed to offer students maximum freedom in selecting courses across a broad range of disciplines. It can be completed on the Thunder Bay or Orillia campuses, or fully online, providing convenience and accessibility. The program requires the completion of fifteen full course equivalents (FCEs) with specific guidelines to ensure a balanced and comprehensive education. Students may take up to seven FCEs at the first-year or zero level, but must complete at least two FCEs of Type A (Humanities) or Type B (Social Sciences), or a combination of both, at the third-year level or above. Additionally, the Indigenous Content Requirement is fulfilled by including one-half FCE from the designated Type E courses. The final five FCEs must be completed while officially registered in the Bachelor of Arts (General Program), unless permission is granted by the Dean. A minimum combined average of 60% is required in all Type A and Type B courses taken to maintain academic standards. In the first year, students complete four FCEs in Humanities or Social Sciences, one-half FCE from Type E courses, and one-half FCE elective. The second year involves three FCEs in Humanities or Social Sciences and two electives. In the third year, students complete two FCEs in Humanities or Social Sciences at the upper-year level, an additional two FCEs in these areas, and one elective. This structure encourages academic exploration while ensuring depth and rigor, preparing students for a variety of career paths or further studies.
