COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma of Science at Kwantlen Polytechnic University requires students to complete a total of 60 credits in 1100- and 2000-level courses with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 in the courses used to satisfy the diploma requirements. The curriculum begins with 3 credits in first-year English to build essential academic communication skills. Students must also complete 6 credits in mathematics, selecting from courses such as Pre-Calculus, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Calculus for Life Sciences I and II, or Statistics I, with at least one of the courses being in Calculus. To ensure a broad scientific foundation, students must take a minimum of 20 credits at the 1100- or 1200-level across at least two science disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This provides exposure to different branches of science and helps students develop a well-rounded understanding of scientific principles and methods. In addition, students must complete 6 to 8 credits at the 2000-level or higher in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics to deepen their expertise and prepare for advanced studies or career opportunities. While the diploma signifies a substantial academic achievement in science, it does not carry automatic block transfer recognition to other institutions. Instead, transfer credits are assessed on a course-by-course basis. Students intending to transfer should carefully plan their courses in consultation with an academic advisor to meet the requirements of the receiving institution. Overall, this diploma provides a strong foundation in science and supports further education or career development in scientific and technical fields.
