COURSE CURRICULUM

The General Business Studies Diploma requires students to complete a minimum of 60 credits, encompassing core business foundation courses, electives, and breadth education. The business foundation courses include Organizational Behaviour, Business Law, Operations Management, a Business Diploma Capstone, and Introduction to Marketing, totaling 15 credits. Students must also select one group of accounting courses, either Accelerated Introductory Financial Accounting or a two-course sequence covering Introductory Financial Accounting I and II, adding 3 to 6 credits. In addition to these, students choose 21 credits of business general studies electives, which must include seven courses. These electives may come from various areas such as Applied Communication, Accounting, Business, Business & Quantitative Methods, Computer Business Systems, Economics, Entrepreneurial Leadership, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, and Marketing. However, students are limited to a maximum of nine credits from lower-level (1100–1999) courses in this category. Breadth education courses are also required to broaden students’ academic experience and critical thinking skills. These include Introduction to University Writing, Introduction to Professional Communication, Principles of Microeconomics, and one course in mathematics or business mathematics, such as Calculus or Business Statistics. Furthermore, students must complete a statistics course chosen from a variety of options, including Quantitative Data Analysis, Applied Statistics, or Business Statistics. To complete the program, students select two additional breadth electives outside of business-related disciplines, totaling six credits. This flexible curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in business concepts while allowing customization through electives, preparing students for diverse career opportunities or further academic pursuits.
