COURSE CURRICULUM
The Diploma in Engineering Physics at KPU requires students to complete a total of 62 credits, offering a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum that combines foundational studies in engineering, physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and communication. Core engineering courses include Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Graphics, and Microcontrollers, which introduce students to the design process, technical drawing, and embedded systems. Foundational science requirements include Chemistry (Structure of Matter or Chemistry for Engineering), two physics courses (Physics I and II for Physical and Applied Sciences), and an additional physics course in Engineering Mechanics or Mechanics I. Students also complete programming in Principles of Program Structure and Design, along with academic writing through Introduction to University Writing. The mathematics component is comprehensive, covering Differential and Integral Calculus, Matrix Algebra or Linear Algebra, and advanced topics such as Multivariate Calculus, Vector Calculus, or Complex Numbers and Linear Algebra. Students must also choose four additional physics courses, selecting at least one from List A—Experimental Physics, Electronics, or Sensors and Actuators—and one from List B, which includes Modern Physics, Classical Mechanics, Thermal Physics, or Electricity and Magnetism. To round out the diploma, students are required to take a 3-credit elective course from outside the Faculty of Science at the 1100 level or higher, allowing for broader academic exploration. This diverse curriculum provides the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for further studies in engineering or physics and prepares students for transfer into upper-year programs or continuation in KPU’s Bachelor of Science in Physics for Modern Technology.
