COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology Diploma program requires students to complete a total of 60 credits at the 1000 and 2000 levels, offering a balanced curriculum that integrates core theoretical foundations with multidisciplinary perspectives. Group A comprises the core criminology courses, including Introduction to Criminology, Criminal Justice System, Canadian Legal Systems, Criminal Law, Research Methods, Quantitative Data Analysis, and psychological and sociological explanations of criminal behavior, along with Canadian Criminal Justice Administration, totaling 27 credits. Group B introduces foundational knowledge in related disciplines through courses in Psychology and Sociology, while Group C requires students to choose one course from Philosophy or Logic to build critical thinking skills. Group D offers a wide range of electives from disciplines such as Anthropology, Policing, Economics, English, History, and Political Science, allowing students to explore diverse social contexts that influence criminal behavior and justice systems. In Group E, students choose two courses from options including Forensic Anthropology, Computer Literacy, Programming, Developmental Psychology, and higher-level courses in French, Sociology, or Science, expanding their analytical and technical competencies. Group F allows further specialization with four courses selected from advanced topics in Criminology, Anthropology, Psychology, History, Political Science, or Sociology. These include areas such as youth justice, media and crime, police accountability, social psychology, and psychopathology. This flexible structure enables students to tailor their studies to individual interests and career goals, while developing a comprehensive understanding of crime, justice, and the broader societal forces that shape them. The program is ideal preparation for further academic study or careers in justice and social services.
