COURSE CURRICULUM

The diploma program requires students to complete a minimum of 60 credits across two years, focusing on a blend of business, communication, and core computing subjects. In the first year, students begin with foundational courses such as Business Mathematics or Calculus I for Business Applications, followed by a choice among Business Statistics or various introductory statistics options. Core computing courses include Introduction to Computer Hardware and Software, Principles of Program Structure and Design I, Systems Analysis and Design, Operating Systems Principles and Applications, Networking Technologies I, Web Application Development, Discrete Mathematics for Information Technology, and Introduction to Formal Logic, totaling 30 credits. In the second year, the curriculum shifts toward more advanced topics and practical applications. Students study Fundamentals of Business in Canada, Introduction to Professional Communication, and University Writing, alongside more technical courses such as Networking Technologies II, Database Systems, and Principles of Program Structure and Design II. Further specialization includes courses in Data Structures, Foundations of Computer Security, System Development Project, and Server Operating Systems. These courses prepare students for real-world IT environments by combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in areas like software development, network administration, systems security, and project implementation. An optional Co-operative Education component is available, requiring an additional 19 credits, which provides practical work experience and enhances employability. The structured plan of study ensures a comprehensive learning experience, equipping students with the skills necessary for entry-level roles in the information technology field or for continued education in related disciplines.
