COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced 2D Digital Animation Production diploma program at KPU requires students to complete a total of 96 credits across six terms, with a minimum grade of C in all required courses. The structured, full-time curriculum begins with foundational skills in Term 1, including 2D Animation Principles (ENTA 1140), Drawing for Animation (ENTA 1141), Figure Drawing (ENTA 1142), and History of Animation (ENTA 1143), totaling 16 credits. Term 2 focuses on developing key animation and design abilities through courses such as Introduction to Character Animation (ENTA 1240), Layout and Background Design (ENTA 1241), Character and Props Builds (ENTA 1242), and Character Design (ENTA 1243). In Term 3, students advance their skills with Intermediate Character Animation (ENTA 1340), Advanced Character Design (ENTA 1343), Advanced Layout and Background Design (ENTA 1341), and Industry Preparation (ENTA 1323). Term 4 introduces more complex elements of the animation pipeline with Advanced Character Animation (ENTA 2140), Visual Storytelling (ENTA 2141), 2D FX Animation (ENTA 2142), and Compositing (ENTA 2143). Term 5 builds on this with advanced courses in Visual Storytelling (ENTA 2241), FX Animation (ENTA 2242), Compositing (ENTA 2243), and Project Planning (ENTA 2240). In the final term, students complete a comprehensive production cycle through Preproduction (ENTA 2341), Production (ENTA 2342), Production Finals (ENTA 2343), and a Portfolio course (ENTA 2344), where they compile their demo reels. This intensive, hands-on program is designed to simulate industry practices and prepare students for professional roles in the 2D animation sector.
