COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting Diploma program requires students to complete a minimum of 60 credits, encompassing a comprehensive range of courses designed to build a strong foundation in accounting and business. The curriculum includes essential Business Foundation Courses such as Organizational Behaviour (BUSI 1215), Business Law (BUSI 2390), Operations Management (BUSI 2405), Business Diploma Capstone (BUSI 2425), and Introduction to Marketing (MRKT 1199). Students must select one group of introductory financial accounting courses, either Accelerated Introductory Financial Accounting (ACCT 2293) or the two-part sequence of Introductory Financial Accounting I and II (ACCT 1110 and ACCT 1210). The core Accounting Courses include Introductory Taxation (ACCT 2235), Cost and Management Accounting I (ACCT 3320), Intermediate Taxation (ACCT 3335), Managerial Finance (ACCT 3380), Auditing (ACCT 3444), and Intermediate Financial Accounting I and II (ACCT 3310 and ACCT 3410). Breadth Education Courses complement the accounting focus with topics like Accounting Systems and Advanced Reporting Applications (CBSY 2306), Introduction to Professional Communication (CMNS 1140), Principles of Microeconomics (ECON 1150), and Introduction to University Writing (ENGL 1100). Students must also choose one course from a selection of mathematics options, including Business Mathematics and various calculus courses, and one statistics course from a diverse list including Business Statistics, Quantitative Data Analysis, Applied Statistics, and Social Research Statistics. Additionally, students select one elective course from any area of study, excluding accounting, business, entrepreneurship, hospitality management, or marketing, to broaden their academic exposure. Overall, the curriculum is carefully structured to ensure students gain both specialized accounting expertise and a well-rounded business education, preparing them effectively for professional roles or further studies.
