COURSE CURRICULUM

The Appliance Service Technician Foundation program covers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required for appliance servicing. Key topics include Safety with Respect to Appliance Servicing, The Tools of the Trade, and The Fundamentals of Electricity, alongside Customer Relations and diagnosing motors used in appliances. The program also delves into Basic Electronics for Appliances and covers specific appliance types such as Electric Clothes Dryers, Standard and Self-cleaning Ranges/Wall Ovens (including electronic models), Automatic Clothes Washers, Automatic Electric Dishwashers, Garbage Disposers, Garbage Compactors, Electric Water Heaters, Microwave Ovens, Household Refrigerators (including electronic models), Freezers, and Air Conditioners. Additionally, students prepare for and complete the BC Provincial "C" Gas Certificate and participate in a two-week Work Practicum, providing practical, hands-on experience with industry professionals.Students must complete a total of 34 credits, including courses such as APPL 1110 Basic Electricity (5 credits), APPL 1115 Basic Electronics (1 credit), APPL 1120 Ancillary Products (1 credit), APPL 1125 Electric Dryers (3 credits), APPL 1130 Electric Ranges (5 credits), APPL 1210 Automatic Washers (5 credits), APPL 1215 Automatic Electric Dishwashers (3 credits), APPL 1220 Basic Refrigeration and Domestic Air Conditioning (5.5 credits), APPL 1225 Work Experience Practicum (1.5 credits), APPL 1230 Microwave Ovens (1.5 credits), and APPL 1235 BC Provincial “C” Gas Certificate (2.5 credits). A minimum GPA of 2.67 is required for all courses to successfully complete the program. This curriculum ensures students develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for a career in appliance servicing.
