COURSE CURRICULUM

The Automotive Service Technician Foundation program covers essential topics such as measuring instruments, shop safety practices, and the use of shop tools and equipment. Students develop a deep understanding of critical automotive systems including fuel systems, engine theory and repair, drive lines, emission control systems, brakes and tires, ignition systems, steering systems, electronic engine management, frame and suspension systems, as well as standard transmission and differentials. To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a minimum grade of B- in all required courses. The curriculum includes a range of specialized courses designed to build practical skills and technical knowledge, such as ASTA 1100 Safety, Communication, Tools and Fasteners (3 credits), ASTA 1110 General Automotive Services, Practices and Maintenance (1.5 credits), and ASTA 1120 Electrical Fundamentals, Diagnosis and Repair (6.5 credits). Further hands-on and theoretical training is provided through courses like ASTA 1130 Steering, Frames, Suspension and Wheel Alignment (6.5 credits), ASTA 1140 Automotive Braking Systems (5 credits), and ASTA 1150 Welding (1 credit). Students also study key mechanical components and systems in ASTA 1160 The Internal Combustion Engine (1.5 credits), ASTA 1170 Power Train Fundamentals (2.5 credits), and ASTA 1180 Engine Management and Control Systems (5 credits). The program totals 32.5 credits, ensuring a comprehensive education that equips students with the necessary skills to excel in the automotive service industry and prepare for further apprenticeship training and certification.
