COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in NGO and Nonprofit Studies requires completion of 30 credits, organized into three main areas: Business, Methods and Ethics, and Perspectives. Students begin with foundational courses such as Social & Cultural Anthropology, Organizations for Change, Non-Governmental Organizations in Practice, and Professional Communication or University Writing. The Business section requires at least six credits from various groups, including accounting, management, marketing, economics, and public relations, allowing students to gain knowledge in financial, organizational, and marketing aspects relevant to nonprofit work. In the Methods and Ethics category, students must complete at least six credits, choosing from diverse subjects such as research methods, communication studies, counseling theories, criminology, environmental studies, journalism, and psychology, providing practical and ethical tools for nonprofit leadership and research. The Perspectives section also requires at least six credits, encouraging students to explore cross-cultural studies, environmental economics, social justice, urban planning, indigenous studies, political science, and other related topics, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the social, cultural, and political contexts impacting nonprofits. Students are encouraged to select courses from various groups to ensure a balanced and interdisciplinary approach, with options ranging from ethnographic field studies to restorative justice and design thinking. This flexible structure allows learners to tailor their studies according to their interests while covering essential skills and knowledge for effective nonprofit and NGO work, preparing graduates for diverse roles in the sector.
