COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Nurse, Internationally Educated Re-entry Certificate program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is a 47-credit, three-semester program designed to support internationally educated nurses (IENs) in re-entering the nursing profession within the Canadian healthcare context. The curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, ensuring alignment with the professional and regulatory expectations of nursing in British Columbia. In the first term, students complete 19 credits through courses such as GNIE 1102 Relational Engagement in Nursing Practice, GNIE 1104 Pharmacology for Nurses, GNIE 1117 Professional Nursing Practice 1, and GNIE 1118 Professional Nursing Theory 1, which focus on foundational concepts, pharmacological understanding, and practical integration. The second term includes 13 credits, emphasizing further development in both theory and practice through GNIE 1218 Professional Nursing Theory 2 and GNIE 1227 Professional Nursing Practice 2. The final term, totaling 15 credits, advances student knowledge with GNIE 1328 Professional Nursing Theory 3 and GNIE 1337 Professional Nursing Practice 3, preparing students for real-world, professional nursing roles. To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a minimum Program GPA of 2.67 and a minimum grade of C+ in all required courses. The program is designed to renew and build upon previously acquired nursing knowledge, focusing on areas such as communication, patient safety, cultural competency, and professional responsibility. Upon completion, graduates are well-equipped to meet the standards required for licensure and practice as registered nurses in Canada, fostering a smooth transition into the local healthcare workforce.
