COURSE CURRICULUM

The General Business Studies Certificate at Kwantlen Polytechnic University requires the successful completion of 30 credits and is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge across key business disciplines. The curriculum begins with four core courses: BUSI 1110 (Fundamentals of Business in Canada), BUSI 1215 (Organizational Behaviour), ECON 1150 (Principles of Microeconomics), and MRKT 1199 (Introduction to Marketing), each worth 3 credits. Students must then choose one accounting course—either ACCT 1110 (Introductory Financial Accounting I) or ACCT 2293 (Accelerated Introductory Financial Accounting)—followed by one statistics course selected from a broad list including BUQU 1230, CRIM 2103, PSYC 2300, SOCI 2365, STAT 1115, or STAT 2342. The program also includes 12 credits of electives, where students can tailor their studies based on career interests or future educational goals. Elective areas include Applied Communications (CMNS), Accounting (ACCT), Business (BUSI), Business Quantitative Methods (BUQU), Economics (ECON), English (ENGL), Information Technology (INFO), Marketing (MRKT), and Computer Business Systems (CBSY). To specialize, students may focus their electives on either Business Management or Marketing. For the Business Management stream, students choose four courses such as BUSI 1210, BUSI 1250, and BUSI 2405. For the Marketing stream, students complete MRKT 1299 plus three additional MRKT courses. This flexible program offers students the ability to customize their educational path while gaining a solid business foundation suitable for entry-level employment or further studies.
