COURSE CURRICULUM

The Farrier Science program requires the completion of 33 credits through a series of comprehensive courses designed to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Students begin with Fundamentals of Farrier Science (FARR 1131), which provides an essential overview of the trade. This is complemented by Equine Anatomy and Physiology (FARR 1132), offering a detailed understanding of the horse’s body, and Equine Conformation and Trimming (FARR 1133), which focuses on evaluating and preparing hooves. The program also includes Horseshoe Forging (FARR 1134), a 5-credit course that teaches students the art and techniques of shaping horseshoes. Equine Management for Farriers (FARR 1135) covers the care and handling of horses within the farrier context, while Horseshoeing (FARR 1136) provides intensive hands-on training in fitting and attaching horseshoes, one of the core skills for farriers. The Farrier Practicum (FARR 1140) is a 6-credit, practical, field-based course where students gain real-world experience by applying their skills under supervision. To support reflective learning and professional growth, students complete the Farrier Portfolio and Practice course (FARR 1150), which involves documenting their progress and building professional competencies. Together, these courses provide a well-rounded education in farriery, blending classroom instruction with extensive hands-on experience to prepare students for successful careers in the industry.
