COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (BTCM) program consists of a Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine – Acupuncture plus a minimum of 49 credits of advanced study covering the full scope of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The curriculum spans 10 terms and totals between 135 and 142 credits. In the first six terms, students focus on foundational acupuncture courses such as Acupuncture Fundamental Theory, Diagnosis, Meridian and Acupoint studies, Medical Biochemistry, and Pathology. Practical skills are developed through multiple supervised practicums alongside coursework in ethics, communication, Western medical diagnosis, and pharmacology. The program also includes specialized courses like Taiji/Qigong, Musculoskeletal Management, Practice Transitions, and Practice Management and Regulation, preparing students for clinical work and professional practice. In the later terms, students deepen their knowledge of TCM herbology, including herbal formulas, gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology, and internal medicine, alongside further supervised clinical practice. Health research and evidence-informed practice are integrated to foster critical thinking and up-to-date clinical application. The final term requires students to complete a selection of courses outside the core acupuncture and TCM subjects to broaden their understanding, along with a supervised practice course. This comprehensive structure equips graduates with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies needed to become competent TCM practitioners, ready to meet regulatory standards and operate effectively in clinical settings.
