COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Science Major requires completion of a minimum of 124 credits, including specific course requirements across four years. Students must complete 120 credits at the 1100 level or higher, with 45 credits at the 3000 level or higher, including 9 credits at the 4000 level. Additionally, 18 credits of breadth electives are required, including at least 3 credits at the 3000 level or higher, with at least 12 credits from courses outside the Faculty of Science, and up to 6 credits from science courses outside BIOL, CHEM, MATH, and PHYS. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is necessary, and at least 50% of all courses and 66% of upper-level courses must be completed at KPU. In Year 1, students take foundational courses such as Introductory Biology I and II, Chemistry, university writing, introduction to health science, medical terminology, calculus, and select courses in Indigenous studies, philosophy, math, or sociology, totaling 34 credits. Year 2 includes advanced biology and chemistry courses, physics, sociology of health, and electives totaling 32-33 credits. Year 3 focuses on microbiology, human anatomy, molecular biology, health care ethics, statistics, and health science electives, comprising 30-31 credits. Year 4 includes advanced biochemistry, human systems, critical evaluation, and electives in microbiology, genetics, pathology, health program planning, aging, policy, and business, with options for a senior seminar or research projects, totaling 28-30 credits. This comprehensive curriculum ensures graduates are well-prepared for diverse careers in health science and further professional or academic pursuits.
