COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Applications of Mathematics requires students to complete a minimum of 120 credits at the 1100 level or higher, including 45 credits from at least 15 courses at the 3000 level or above, with 9 credits at the 4000 level. Students must also complete 18 credits of breadth electives, which include at least 12 credits outside the Faculty of Science, up to 6 credits from non-prescribed science fields, and 3 credits at the 3000 level or higher. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is required, with at least 50% of all courses and 66% of upper-level courses completed at KPU. The major includes a set of core courses such as calculus (MATH 1120, 1130, 1220, or equivalents), physics (PHYS 1101 or 1120), biology or chemistry (BIOL 1110 or CHEM 1110), programming fundamentals (CPSC 1103 and 1204), writing-intensive English courses, and advanced mathematics topics including linear algebra, multivariate calculus, discrete mathematics, applied mathematics, ordinary differential equations, mathematical modeling, and statistics courses (STAT 2315 and 3315). In addition to these core courses, students must select one of three concentrations—Biomathematics, Computational Mathematics, or Mathematics Education—each requiring further specialized coursework totaling between 69 and 77 credits. Overall, students complete between 122 and 130 credits depending on their chosen concentration. This program is designed to provide a robust foundation in mathematics with practical applications across scientific and computational disciplines, preparing students for diverse career paths or graduate studies.
