COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Advanced Entry program requires students to complete all program requirements within a maximum of seven years. The program is structured over seven terms totaling 93 credits, balancing theoretical knowledge with practical nursing experience. In Term 1, students focus on individual health and health promotion, including foundational nursing roles in residential care, through courses such as Program Orientation, Practice and Praxis on episodic health challenges, Relational Engagement, Health Promotion, and Critical Inquiry in nursing research and writing, totaling 14 credits. Term 2 covers mental health and chronic health challenges with an emphasis on nursing responsibilities in mental health and older adult care, featuring courses in mental health nursing, decolonizing Indigenous health, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and data analysis, amounting to 19 credits. Term 3 consolidates medical and surgical nursing practice in a 15-credit capstone course. Term 4 addresses family health, focusing on childbearing families, pediatrics, and school health, including maternal-child and pediatric nursing, relational engagement with families, and teaching and learning, totaling 13 credits. Term 5 emphasizes community health and capacity building, incorporating health promotion, nursing theories, community practice, and ethics or bioethics courses, with 13 credits. Term 6 centers on global health and leadership in primary healthcare, including courses on healthcare leadership and practice in a global context, totaling 9 credits. Finally, Term 7 offers full-time nursing practice consolidation with a 10-credit capstone course. This curriculum integrates theoretical concepts and practical experiences to prepare students for competent, reflective nursing practice across diverse healthcare settings.
