COURSE CURRICULUM

To earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Visual Arts, students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a minimum grade of C in all required courses. Admission to third-year Advanced Studio and Seminar I requires maintaining this GPA standard. Students must complete ENGL 1100 within the first 30 credits, along with a 24-credit breadth requirement outside of Fine Arts (FINA) and Art History (ARTH), spanning at least three different academic disciplines. This breadth must include 3 credits of Writing Intensive and 3 credits of Quantitative courses. Within the program, students complete 54 prescribed credits at the 1000 and 2000 levels, including foundational courses such as Modern and Contemporary Art History (ARTH 2122, 2222), introductory and intermediate drawing (FINA 1100, 1200), visual language, form and materials, and issues in contemporary art. Students also take introductory Art History courses and select additional credits in FINA or ARTH to fulfill requirements, including 6 credits in 3D studies. At the 3000 and 4000 level, students complete 42 credits, including advanced studio practice and seminar courses (FINA 3100, 3200), professional practices, and thesis projects (FINA 4300, 4400). They also choose credits from advanced Art History and Fine Arts courses to deepen their expertise. This structure ensures a balanced education in both practical studio work and critical theoretical study, preparing students for professional artistic practice and further academic pursuits.
