COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design in Product Design at KPU is a comprehensive four-year program totaling 120 credits, organized into eight full-time semesters. Students can complete electives and general education courses before or during the program, providing flexibility in their academic journey. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as Design Methods for Hard and Soft Materials, Visualization, Construction Technologies, and Introduction to University Writing, establishing core skills in the first year. As students progress, the program delves deeper into industry-focused studios covering material technology, human factors, production cycles, and socio-cultural contexts, with courses like Design for Performance: Sport and Industry, Design for Systems Change, and Design for Protective Apparel and Gear. Marketing principles are introduced through an Introduction to Marketing course to align design with market needs. The program emphasizes hands-on learning through studios and industry experience, including a dedicated Industry Experience course in the third year. In the final year, students engage in advanced studios focusing on design research, business design, and capstone production, preparing them for professional practice.
