COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Major in Psychology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University requires students to complete 51 credits of psychology-specific coursework in addition to the Bachelor of Arts Framework requirements. During the first two years, students take foundational courses including PSYC 1100 (Introduction to Psychology: Basic Processes), PSYC 1200 (Areas and Applications), PSYC 2300 (Applied Statistics), PSYC 2315 (Brain and Behaviour), PSYC 2330 (Social Psychology), PSYC 2385 (Cognition), and PSYC 2400 (Research Methods in Psychology I). At the upper level, students are required to complete one course from each of five core areas. In Biological Psychology, options include Drugs and Behaviour, Sensation & Perception, Brain Dysfunction and Recovery, and Neuroscience. In Cognitive Psychology, choices include Psychology of Memory, Learning Theory, Psychology of Consciousness, Cognitive Ergonomics, and Critical Thinking in Psychology. In Developmental Psychology, students may select from Infancy, Adolescence, Adulthood, and Aging. In Social/Personality Psychology, courses include Attitudes and Persuasion, Group Dynamics, Psychology of Gender, Psychology of Prejudice, Advanced Personality Theory, Interpersonal Relations, Psychology of Genocide, and Culture and Psychology. In Clinical and Health Psychology, students can choose from Advanced Topics in Psychopathology, Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Developmental Psychopathology, and Rehabilitation. In addition to these core requirements, students must complete 15 more credits from psychology courses at the 3000 or 4000 level. This program provides a broad and flexible foundation in psychological science, preparing students for diverse career paths or graduate-level study.
