COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Major in Philosophy at KPU requires students to complete a minimum of 48 credits in philosophy, including at least 18 credits at the 3000 level and 6 credits at the 4000 level. The core curriculum is structured into several key areas. Students begin with at least 3 credits in formal logic, fulfilled by PHIL 1150. In the History of Philosophy category, 9 credits are required, including PHIL 2106 (Ancient Greek Philosophy), PHIL 2107 (Modern Philosophy: Descartes to Kant), and one additional upper-level course in the history of philosophy. In Metaphysics and Epistemology, students complete 9 credits through PHIL 2210 (Epistemology), PHIL 2215 (Metaphysics), and another upper-level course in either field. For Ethics, students take PHIL 2110 (Moral Theory), one of PHIL 3109, PHIL 3119, or PHIL 4110, and one more upper-level course in value theory. Additionally, students must complete a 9-credit Applied Ethics Stream, choosing from specialized courses such as PHIL 3118 (Ethics and Public Policy), PHIL 3510 (Bio-medical Ethics), PHIL 3512 (Environmental Ethics), and PHIL 3533 (Business Ethics). These requirements ensure that graduates have a well-rounded foundation in philosophical thinking, covering core theoretical areas while also developing practical ethical reasoning skills applicable to contemporary issues.
