COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in History at KPU must complete all requirements within the Bachelor of Arts framework, alongside their major-specific courses. The History major requires students to take a total of 45 credits in History courses, starting with foundational classes. Students select 15 credits from HIST courses at the 1000 or 2000 level, ensuring at least 6 of those credits are at the 2000 level to provide a strong base of historical knowledge and analytical skills. A key component of the program is HIST 4400, Applications of History, a 3-credit course designed to deepen students’ understanding of how history can be applied to contemporary issues and professional contexts. Beyond this, students must complete an additional 27 credits from advanced HIST courses at the 3000 or 4000 level, with at least 6 credits at the 4000 level, allowing for in-depth exploration of specialized topics and themes in history. This structure ensures a balance between breadth and depth, providing students with the tools to critically analyze historical events and processes. Overall, the curriculum is designed to cultivate strong research, writing, and critical thinking skills, preparing graduates for diverse career opportunities or further academic study.
