COURSE CURRICULUM

The Anthropology Major at KPU requires the completion of 48 credits in anthropology courses, structured across multiple levels to provide a comprehensive foundation and specialized knowledge in the discipline. At the 1000 level, students begin with three core introductory courses: ANTH 1100 (Social & Cultural Anthropology), ANTH 1200 (Biological Anthropology), and ANTH 1300 (Archaeology), each worth 3 credits, offering a well-rounded introduction to the field. ANTH 1217 (Forensic Anthropology) is recommended as an additional foundational course. For methods training, students must choose one 3-credit course from ANTH 2100 (Ethnographic Research Methods and Ethics), ANTH 2217 (Forensic Methods & Analysis), ANTH 2300 (Archaeological Methods), or ANTH 3301 (Archaeological Methods for Cultural Resource Management), giving students practical research and analytical skills. Students are also required to take at least 6 credits in additional 2000-level ANTH courses to further build on foundational topics. At the 3000 level, one 3-credit theory course must be selected from either ANTH 3100 (Anthropological Theory) or ANTH 3300 (Archaeological Theory), along with 18 additional credits of ANTH courses at the 3000 level, allowing for in-depth exploration of specialized subjects within the discipline. Finally, students complete 9 credits of advanced 4000-level ANTH courses to refine their analytical and critical thinking skills in preparation for careers or graduate studies. This structured yet flexible curriculum ensures students develop both broad and focused expertise in anthropology, with opportunities to specialize in areas such as social-cultural dynamics, biological anthropology, archaeology, and applied fieldwork.
