COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Law Enforcement Studies offers a rigorous, two-year curriculum designed to deepen students’ understanding of the justice system while enhancing their practical skills for careers in public safety. In Year 1, Term 1 introduces foundational concepts through courses such as Reconciling Colonial Practices in Justice & Public Safety, Introduction to Criminology, Theoretical and Applied Perspectives on Conflict Resolution, Introduction to Applied Ethics, and Introduction to the Canadian Criminal Justice System. These are complemented in Term 2 by courses like Ethical Issues in Public Safety, Contemporary Issues in Law Enforcement, Organizational Behaviour, Applied Research in Public Safety & Law Enforcement, and Introduction to Intelligence Analysis, equipping students with a strong grasp of both ethical frameworks and analytical tools. After a scheduled term break, students return for Year 2, where the focus shifts to specialized, advanced topics. In Term 3, students explore Law Enforcement in a Diverse Society, Criminal Law and Investigations, Leadership in a Law Enforcement Environment, Comparative Criminal Justice, and Criminal and Deviant Behaviour. Term 4 culminates the program with courses such as Governance and Accountability in Law Enforcement, Crisis Intervention, Restorative Justice, Investigations and Forensic Evidence, and a capstone Research Project. This progression ensures that students not only understand theoretical and legal aspects of law enforcement but also develop the practical, research, and leadership skills needed to address real-world challenges in policing, corrections, and other public safety roles. The program’s comprehensive course structure prepares graduates for impactful careers in justice and law enforcement sectors.
