COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Informatics Ontario Graduate Certificate program at Humber offers a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum designed to prepare professionals for the growing demands of data-driven health-care environments. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge through courses such as Foundations of Health Informatics and Canadian Health Care Systems, delivered online, providing a strong theoretical framework for understanding the structure and challenges of the health-care landscape. Complementing this are in-person, technical courses like Programming Health Data Science, Health IT Infrastructure, and Health Data Interoperability, where students develop the practical skills required to work with health data, systems, and technology platforms. In the second semester, the program shifts focus toward application and integration. Courses like Technology-Enabled Problem Solving in Healthcare and Healthcare Systems Access, Privacy and Security teach students how to design and evaluate solutions that comply with legal and ethical standards, while Project Management and Operations within Health Informatics equips students with strategic planning tools. The Data Analytics & Statistics for Health Informatics course deepens their analytical capabilities, enabling them to derive meaningful insights from complex health data. The program culminates in an in-person Capstone Project, where students apply their knowledge to real-world challenges, often in collaboration with industry partners. This full-spectrum approach ensures graduates are prepared not only to handle the technical aspects of health informatics but also to navigate organizational, ethical, and patient-centred concerns. Whether students come from health care or IT backgrounds, this program equips them to lead innovation and improve outcomes in the modern health-care system.
