COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paralegal graduate certificate program at Humber offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for success in the legal profession. In the first semester, students build foundational understanding through courses such as Introduction to the Legal System, Legal Research, Legal Computer Applications, Small Claims Court, Legal Writing Skills, Contract Law, and Tort Law, all delivered in person to foster direct engagement and practical learning. The second semester expands on this foundation with hybrid courses in Administrative Law, Criminal/Summary Conviction, Residential Landlord & Tenant Law, and Provincial Offences/Motor Vehicle Offences, alongside in-person classes like Evidence, Legal Accounting, Advanced Legal Writing, and the first Field Experience in Paralegal work, offering hands-on, real-world practice. In the final semester, students refine their expertise with courses in Advocacy, Employment Law, Practice Management and Operating a Small Business, Ethics and Professional Responsibility, Tribunal Practice & Procedure, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and the second Field Experience in Paralegal, blending hybrid and in-person delivery methods. This program emphasizes both theoretical and applied learning, preparing graduates to competently handle diverse legal matters and to manage professional practice effectively within the paralegal field.
