COURSE CURRICULUM

The Journalism graduate certificate program at Humber’s North campus offers a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum designed to build essential journalism skills over three semesters. In the first semester, students develop core competencies through courses like Journalism Fundamentals, Reporting Fundamentals, Writing Fundamentals, Community Reporting, Multimedia Fundamentals, Investigative Fundamentals, and Production Fundamentals, along with opportunities for independent online study and accessible media training. These foundational courses prepare students to effectively research, report, write, and produce stories across various platforms. The second semester advances students’ skills with Entrepreneurial Fundamentals, an Advanced Reporting Portfolio, and Newsroom Production, complemented by Professional Practice training offered online to develop workplace readiness and industry knowledge. The final semester includes a Field Experience course, providing real-world, in-person practical experience that helps students apply their learning in professional journalism settings. Throughout the program, students gain valuable hands-on experience, develop multimedia and investigative reporting skills, and build a portfolio to showcase their work. The blend of in-person and online courses ensures flexibility, allowing students to balance their studies with other commitments while receiving guidance from experienced faculty.
