COURSE CURRICULUM

The Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management graduate certificate program provides students with an intensive and practical curriculum designed to prepare them for careers in the health, fitness, and rehabilitation industries. In Semester 1, students develop foundational knowledge and applied skills through courses such as Clinical Anatomy (ANAT 5003), Exercise Prescription (ESCI 5000), Advanced Fitness Assessment (ESCI 5002), Occupational Biomechanics and Disability Management (ESCI 5003), Therapeutic Exercise for Musculoskeletal Disorders (ESCI 5004), ECG Interpretation (ESCI 5006), and the first of two hands-on work placements, Experiential Learning 1 (WORK 5000). These courses lay the groundwork in functional anatomy, exercise planning, and assessment while introducing students to clinical and workplace considerations in kinesiology. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with Kinesiology as a Profession (ESCI 5007), Group Exercise Leadership (ESCI 5550), Nutrition for Therapeutic and Performance Applications (ESCI 5551), and Therapeutic Exercise for Special Populations (ESCI 5552), providing focused training for working with diverse client needs. Students also explore public health through Health Promotion (ESCI 5553) and refine their hands-on capabilities in Clinical Skills Lab (ESCI 5555). The semester includes training in Marketing and Entrepreneurship (MKTG 5552), enabling students to build and promote services within the fitness and health industry. The second work-integrated learning experience, Experiential Learning 2 (WORK 5500), allows students to apply their skills in real-world settings under professional supervision. Overall, the program prepares graduates with the advanced knowledge, applied competencies, and professional readiness required to succeed as kinesiologists or in related roles.
