COURSE CURRICULUM

The Visual and Digital Arts diploma program at Humber offers a diverse and comprehensive curriculum spread over four semesters, designed to build foundational and advanced skills across traditional and digital art forms. In the first semester, students focus on fundamental techniques through courses like Illustration Materials and Techniques 1, Art History, Studio Practice 1, Colour and Composition, Figure Drawing 1, and Digital Art 1, alongside College Reading and Writing Skills. The second semester deepens artistic practice with Studio Practice 2, Representational Painting, Methods and Materiality, Figure Drawing 2, Digital Photography, and Workplace Writing Skills, complemented by an introduction to Arts and Sciences. The third semester advances students’ proficiency with courses in Illustration Materials and Techniques 2, Contemporary Painting, Special Topics in Contemporary Practice, The Moving Image, Digital Art 2, and Figure Painting, while allowing for a general elective. The final semester emphasizes structural visualization, anatomy for artists, illustration rendering, exploring drawing, and the business and practice of art, including Interactive Art and a general elective. This well-rounded program combines technical skill development, conceptual understanding, and professional practices, preparing students to excel creatively and critically while fostering their ability to work across multiple mediums and artistic disciplines.
