COURSE CURRICULUM

The Recreation and Leisure Services diploma program at Humber is structured over four semesters, providing a comprehensive education in recreation management and service delivery. In the first semester, students explore leadership skills, recreation and sport programming, community engagement, and foundational knowledge of recreation and leisure services, alongside developing essential reading and writing skills. The second semester introduces financial management, customer service excellence, risk management, and wellness lifestyle management, further supported by workplace communication skills. Semester three focuses on career development, outdoor recreation, marketing strategies for sport and recreation, revenue generation, entrepreneurship, and serving diverse populations. The final semester equips students with skills in human resources management, special event planning, facility operations, and recreation software management, culminating in a hands-on field experience that integrates and applies their learning in real-world settings. Elective courses throughout allow for personalized learning, and general education courses broaden students' critical thinking and interdisciplinary skills. This curriculum balances theory with practical application, preparing students to confidently enter and succeed in the dynamic fields of government, non-profit, and commercial recreation organizations.
