COURSE CURRICULUM

The Practical Nursing diploma program is structured to provide a comprehensive education combining theory, practical skills, and clinical experiences essential for a successful career as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN). In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Basic Human Anatomy (ANAT 100), an introduction to psychology (PSYC 150), and interprofessional education (IPE 101), along with Practical Nursing Theory 1 (NURS 103) and Health Assessment (NURS 104). Students also engage in their first Mandatory Professional Practicum (NURS 101), gaining real-world experience in clinical settings. The focus is on understanding the human body, nursing fundamentals, and beginning to apply these concepts practically. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with more advanced nursing theory (NURS 150), pharmacotherapeutics (NURS 152), and physiology (PHYS 150), alongside further practicum experiences (NURS 151 and NURS 153) to enhance clinical skills. Students continue to develop teamwork abilities through Interprofessional Education (IPE 102) and explore developmental psychology (PSYC 210). Semester 3 focuses on advanced practical nursing theory (NURS 209), leadership, ethics, and legal issues (NURS 217), and pharmacotherapeutics 2 (NURS 218). Students also deepen their understanding of sociology (SOCI 150) while completing a final Mandatory Professional Practicum (NURS 208) to apply their accumulated knowledge in diverse healthcare environments. This integrated curriculum, combining rigorous academics with extensive clinical practice, ensures graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of nursing registration and excel in a variety of healthcare settings.
