COURSE CURRICULUM

Humber’s Police Foundations diploma program spans four semesters and offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in the justice and policing fields. In the first semester, students are introduced to the Canadian criminal justice system, criminology, the criminal code, fitness and lifestyle management, justice careers, and essential reading and writing skills. The second semester covers diversity and Indigenous peoples in Canada, justice communications, community response to social issues, provincial statutes, and offers elective options focused on fitness for justice careers or lifelong fitness, alongside workplace writing and general electives. During the third semester, students explore youth in conflict with the law, criminal and civil law, community policing, police powers, interviewing and investigations, mental health and addictions, and Canadian border security. The fourth and final semester includes courses on evidence and criminal trial procedures, police oversight, investigation and evidence, conflict management, and equity, accountability, and ethics in policing. Fitness options continue to be available, and students complete additional general electives. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, fostering a well-rounded understanding of justice and policing, and prepares graduates for diverse roles in the criminal justice system with a strong commitment to ethics, social justice, and community service.
