COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacy Technician diploma program is structured over four semesters, combining foundational knowledge with hands-on practice to prepare students for diverse pharmacy careers. In Semester 1, students begin with courses such as Community Pharmacy Management, Pharmacy Calculations 1, Pharmacy Dispensing Theory, and Pharmacotherapeutics 1, alongside an introduction to arts and sciences, interprofessional education, and college reading and writing skills. Semester 2 builds on these fundamentals with advanced topics like Pharmacy Calculations 2, Professionalism and Ethics, Institutional Dispensing Lab 1, Hospital Practices, and Pharmacotherapeutics 2, as well as enhanced communication and team functioning skills through interprofessional education courses. Semester 3 focuses on more specialized dispensing labs, aseptic compounding, advanced pharmacy calculations, and Pharmacotherapeutics 3, complemented by professional communication skills specific to pharmacy technicians. The final semester, Semester 4, emphasizes professional communication and collaboration, pharmacotherapeutics 4, and a mandatory professional practicum that provides real-world experience in pharmacy settings. Throughout the program, students engage in simulated labs and practical placements that develop their competency in legal and ethical responsibilities, patient care, medication distribution, and interprofessional collaboration. This integrated curriculum ensures graduates are well-prepared to safely and effectively support pharmacists in community, hospital, and long-term care environments, equipped with the skills to excel in a rapidly evolving healthcare field.
