COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion diploma program is structured over four semesters, blending foundational knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for careers in health and wellness. In the first semester, students build a solid base through courses such as Fundamentals of Nutrition, Math in Food and Nutrition, Introductory Culinary Skills Lab, and Allergens and Advanced Food Safety, alongside interprofessional education and college reading and writing skills. The second semester deepens their understanding with Nutrition for Healthy Living, Physiology for Nutrition, Techniques of Healthy Cooking, Healthy Weights and Weight Loss, and further interprofessional education, supported by workplace writing skills. In the third semester, students focus on applied knowledge through Marketing and Health Promotion, Exercise Science for Healthy Living, Recipe Development and Menu Planning, Nutrition Throughout the Lifecycle, and Nutrition Counselling and Communication, complemented by a general elective. The final semester emphasizes specialized topics such as Food Supply and Technology, Applied Nutrition, Nutrition and Chronic Disease, Entrepreneurship, Natural Health Products and Emerging Science, culminating in a field experience that provides hands-on practical training. Throughout the program, students engage in interdisciplinary learning and develop skills essential for promoting nutrition and healthy lifestyles effectively, preparing them for diverse roles in the growing health and wellness industry.
