COURSE CURRICULUM

The Landscape Technician diploma program spans four semesters and offers students a comprehensive education grounded in sustainable horticulture, environmental stewardship, and practical landscaping skills. In Semester 1, students are introduced to foundational topics through courses like Sustainable Horticultural Practices 1, Surveying and Construction Practices 1, Plant Studies 1, Botany and Soils, and Landscape Drafting and CAD, along with College Reading and Writing Skills for Skilled Trades. Semester 2 builds on these fundamentals with Plant Studies 2, Plant Propagation and Production, Landscape Materials and Techniques, Construction Practices 2, and Sustainable Urban Landscapes, while also enhancing communication through a professional writing course. In Semester 3, the focus expands to advanced plant care and construction techniques with Plant Health Care, Plant Studies 3, Sustainable Horticultural Practices 2, Construction Practices 3, and Site Layout and Construction Detailing. Students also choose a general elective to tailor their education. Semester 4 prepares students for real-world applications and career readiness with courses such as Plant Studies 4, Landscape Business Management, Sustainable Landscape Design and Practices, Turf and Groundcovers, and Introduction to Landscape Estimating, plus another general elective. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience at the Humber Arboretum, a 250-acre botanical garden, as well as in greenhouses and a weather-protected construction lab where they build full-scale landscape structures. Access to industry-standard CAD software further supports their technical development. This well-rounded curriculum ensures graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to succeed in the landscaping and horticulture industry with a focus on sustainable practices.
