COURSE CURRICULUM

The Industrial Woodworking Technician diploma program spans three semesters and offers students a comprehensive blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology in woodworking. In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as General Drafting and Blueprint Reading, Shop Practices and Material Handling, and Woodworking Tools 1, developing essential skills in design and joinery through Fundamentals of Design and Joinery and Cabinet & Furniture Construction 1. Building math skills relevant to woodworking is covered in Essentials of Building Mathematics. Semester 2 builds on these foundations with more advanced training in Woodworking Tools 2 and Cabinet & Furniture Construction 2, alongside specialized techniques in Finishing 1 and Bending and Laminating Methods. Students also begin working with digital tools in Basics of CAD and continue developing communication skills through College Reading and Writing Skills tailored to skilled trades. The final semester focuses on integrating all learned skills into more complex projects and professional readiness. Courses include Finishing 2, Computer Woodworking Applications, and Cabinet Construction 3, which incorporate CNC operations and modern software. Shaping Operations and Installation, Site Work and Repair further prepare students for on-site work. The Operating Your Own Business course introduces entrepreneurship and business management fundamentals, supporting those interested in running independent woodworking shops. A general elective allows for customization of the learning experience. Graduates of this program are well-prepared to enter the woodworking industry with the ability to construct, install, finish, and repair a range of cabinetry and furniture, and to work safely with both traditional tools and CNC machinery.
