COURSE CURRICULUM

The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician diploma program spans four semesters, offering students a comprehensive education in climate control and energy systems. In Semester 1, students are introduced to core concepts through courses such as Refrigeration 1, HVAC Controls 1, Engineering Practices, Installation Practices, and Gas Code, alongside foundational academic courses in Technical Mathematics and College Reading and Writing Skills tailored to skilled trades. Semester 2 builds on this knowledge with Refrigeration 2, HVAC Controls 2, Oil Code, and Advanced Piping Systems. Students also study Technical Mathematics 2 and Professional Communication Skills, and take an introductory general education course to broaden their learning. In Semester 3, the focus shifts to more advanced system applications with courses like Residential Systems Design 1, Refrigeration 3, Mechanical Ventilation, HVAC Controls 3, and Decorative Heating Applications. A general elective provides an opportunity to explore a topic of personal or professional interest. Semester 4 prepares students for field readiness with Refrigeration 4, Heating Systems and Add-Ons, Hydronic Systems, Air Handling and Burners, and Combustion Venting. Another general elective further complements their technical training. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with current tools and technologies in industry-standard labs. The curriculum also supports eligibility for key certifications such as G3, G2, and OBT3, depending on attendance and academic performance. Graduates are prepared to enter the workforce as HVAC technicians capable of designing, installing, and servicing a wide variety of residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
