COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fitness and Health Promotion diploma program is designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills across four semesters. In Semester 1, foundational courses such as Anatomy, Physiology, Fitness Assessment, and Math for Health and Fitness Professionals build essential scientific and analytical skills, complemented by Group Exercise Leadership 1 and communication-focused courses like College Reading and Writing Skills and Interprofessional Education. Semester 2 expands on this foundation with Health and Wellness, Exercise Prescription 1, Nutrition, and Fitness, Health, and Lifestyle Assessment, while also developing career skills and entrepreneurship, alongside Group Exercise Leadership 2 and Exercise Physiology to deepen understanding of the body’s response to physical activity. Semester 3 focuses on applied learning with courses in Biomechanics, Counselling and Communication, Applied Anatomy for Exercise Design, Injury Prevention and Management, and Special Events Planning, preparing students for real-world fitness environments. This semester also includes Experiential Learning in Fitness and Health Promotion and Workplace Writing Skills, enhancing practical and professional communication skills, with an option to take a general elective. In the final semester, students advance to Exercise Prescription 2, Health Promotion, Motor Learning and Control, Psychology of Sport, and Health and Fitness Management, rounding out their expertise with Applied Nutrition and a Field Experience placement in Fitness and Health Promotion. Throughout the program, students develop a strong foundation in science, leadership, communication, and hands-on experience, preparing them to excel in various roles within the fitness and health industry, promote wellness, and positively impact individual and community health.
