COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Engineering Technician – Control Systems diploma program is structured over four semesters, providing a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for careers in automation, power systems, and process control. Semester 1 introduces students to foundational concepts through courses such as Logic Fundamentals, Electric Circuits, Introduction to Robotics, and Programming Fundamentals, while also building communication and math skills through Technical Reading and Writing Skills and Technical Mathematics 1. In Semester 2, students advance into more specialized areas including Electronic Devices and Circuits, Electrical CADD (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting), AC Circuits, and Process Instruments, supported by Technical Mathematics 2 and workplace-focused writing. Semester 3 deepens technical proficiency with Introduction to Calculus, DC Equipment and Controls, Industrial Electronics, and an introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), a key area in automation. Students also explore Power Systems 1 and complete a general education course to broaden their academic perspective. In Semester 4, the focus shifts to industry-specific knowledge with courses in the Canadian Electrical Code, Electrical Circuit Analysis, and Automatic Controls. Students further develop their skills in power systems through Fundamentals of Power Distribution and Circuit Analysis, and advance their automation knowledge with Advanced PLCs and Sensors and Actuators. A final general elective allows students to explore topics of personal or professional interest. This progression ensures graduates are well-equipped with the practical and theoretical skills needed to work in a variety of roles across the electrical engineering and control systems industries.
