COURSE CURRICULUM

Humber’s Community and Justice Services diploma program is structured over four semesters, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for roles in community and justice sectors. In Semester 1, students develop foundational abilities through courses such as Interpersonal Skills (CJS 106), Conflict Management (CJS 107), Community Building Practices (CJS 108), and an overview of the Canadian Criminal Justice System (CJS 109), alongside general education (GNED 101) and college writing skills (WRIT 100). Semester 2 focuses on the Youth Justice System (CJS 150), Correctional Practices (CJS 151), Interviewing Skills (CJS 153), Professional Practice (CJS 155), and Ethical Issues (CJS 200), complemented by Workplace Writing Skills (WRIT 200). Semester 3 includes Criminology (CJS 154), Inclusive Community Practices (CJS 207), Intervention and Case Management (CJS 211), Diversity Issues and Solutions (CJS 254), and the first field experience placement (CJS 210), along with a general elective. The final semester deepens restorative justice knowledge (CJS 206), explores special topics (CJS 253), addresses Mental Health and Addictions (CJS 255), and completes a second field experience placement (CJS 260), with another general elective. This comprehensive program equips students with essential interpersonal, assessment, and intervention skills, supported by real-world experience, preparing them to work effectively in diverse and challenging community and justice environments.
