COURSE CURRICULUM

The Building Construction Technician diploma program consists of a comprehensive four-semester curriculum that equips students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to work effectively in the construction industry. In Semester 1, students are introduced to essential safety practices, hand tools, formwork and concrete structures, construction plans and Revit software, and foundational carpentry techniques. Semester 2 builds on this knowledge with residential framing, building envelope systems, power tools and equipment usage, as well as estimating, layout, and advanced carpentry practice. It also includes an introduction to arts and sciences and essential construction-related mathematics. Semester 3 focuses on more complex construction concepts such as equal and unequal sloped roofs, interior finishes, construction layout principles, commercial and industrial (ICI) plans and codes, and continues the development of hands-on skills through Carpentry Practice 3. Advanced construction math is also covered. In Semester 4, students delve into the theory and practical application of stairs and ramps, ICI construction methods, and exterior finishes. The final semester also includes a professional communication course tailored to skilled trades and a general elective, rounding out the student’s communication and critical thinking abilities. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with a wide range of tools and techniques, preparing them to work confidently in various construction settings. The practical approach, paired with safety, planning, and code compliance, ensures graduates are job-ready and well-positioned for future career advancement or continuation into the Construction Engineering Technology advanced diploma program.
