COURSE CURRICULUM

The Carpentry and Renovation Technician diploma program offers a comprehensive and accelerated curriculum designed to prepare students for a career in the residential renovation industry. Across three intensive semesters, students gain technical knowledge and practical experience while also developing essential business skills. In Semester 1, courses such as Blueprint Reading, Safety, Building Systems 1, Rough Framing, Environmental Remediation, and Reno Practice 1 provide foundational training in construction techniques and safety standards. Technical math and communication skills are also emphasized through Essentials of Building Mathematics and College Reading and Writing Skills. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with a focus on Ontario Building Code Compliance, Management for Home Renovators, Wall Systems, Building Systems 2, and Building Close-In and Insulation, along with continued hands-on learning in Reno Practice 2. Students also strengthen their workplace communication skills and explore general education topics. In the final semester, students delve into more advanced areas such as Financials for Home Renovators, Kitchen and Bath design, Decks, Stairs and Railings, Wall Systems 2, and Finishes. The semester culminates with Reno Practice 3, where students integrate their skills in a practical setting. A general elective broadens their educational experience. This program is delivered in an accelerated format, allowing students to complete four semesters of academic content in just one calendar year, helping them enter the workforce quickly and fully prepared for roles in residential renovation, project management, or entrepreneurship in the construction sector.
