COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welding Techniques certificate program spans two semesters, offering a thorough blend of theory and practical training to prepare students for entry into the welding trade or an apprenticeship. In Semester 1, students begin with TMTH 125: Essentials of Technical Mathematics, which develops the math skills required for precise measurements and welding calculations. WELD 100: Trades Health and Safety introduces students to essential safety practices in the welding environment. WELD 101: Thermal Cutting and Brazing covers the techniques and tools used for cutting and joining metals. WELD 102: Blueprint Reading for Welders focuses on interpreting welding blueprints and technical drawings, a vital skill for project accuracy. WELD 103: Welding and Cutting Processes provides an overview of various welding techniques and applications, while WELD 104: Welding Shop 1 gives students hands-on experience with shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) in a workshop setting. In Semester 2, students advance their knowledge with WELD 150: Metallurgy for Welding, which explores the properties and behaviors of metals during welding. WELD 153: Welding 2 (Theory) builds on the foundational theory from the first semester, covering more advanced concepts. WELD 154: Welding Shop 2 expands hands-on training to include gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). WRIT 108: College Reading and Writing Skills: Skilled Trades develops technical communication skills needed in professional settings. Together, these courses provide the theoretical knowledge and practical expertise needed to begin a successful career in welding.
