The Mechanical Techniques – Millwright certificate program is structured over two semesters, offering a comprehensive mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills to prepare students for entry into the millwright trade or an apprenticeship program. In Semester 1, students start with MLWT 100: Drawings and Schematics, learning to interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics essential for millwright work. MLWT 104: Safety Hand and Power Tools introduces safe practices for using various tools on the job. MLWT 106: Electric and Electronic Control 1 covers the basics of electrical and electronic control systems, while MLWT 108: Mechanic Theory provides foundational mechanical principles. MLWT 110: Welding teaches essential welding techniques, and TMTH 125: Essentials of Technical Mathematics supports students with the math skills required for precision measurements and calculations in mechanical tasks. In Semester 2, students build on their skills with MLWT 205: Set-Up and Operate Machine Tools, gaining hands-on experience with machining equipment. MLWT 206: Electric and Electronic Control 2 advances their knowledge of electrical control systems. MLWT 208: Hydraulic Systems focuses on hydraulic components and their operation. MLWT 210: Compressors, Fans and Blowers introduces mechanical systems commonly encountered in industrial settings. MLWT 215: Machine Tools and Work Project allows students to apply their learning in practical projects, simulating real workplace challenges. WRIT 108: College Reading and Writing Skills: Skilled Trades enhances communication abilities crucial for technical documentation and workplace interaction. This well-rounded curriculum equips students with the technical expertise and practical experience necessary for success in the millwright trade.
