COURSE CURRICULUM

The Furniture and Cabinetmaking Techniques certificate program spans two semesters and offers a well-rounded curriculum that blends traditional woodworking methods with modern technology. In Semester 1, students begin with IWWT 100: General Drafting and Blueprint Reading, which introduces technical drawing interpretation and design communication. IWWT 101: Shop Practices and Material Handling focuses on safety procedures and the correct use of tools and equipment. IWWT 102: Woodworking Tools 1 provides hands-on training with basic hand and power tools used in woodworking. IWWT 103: Fundamentals of Design and Joinery teaches core design principles and joinery methods essential for furniture and cabinet construction. IWWT 106: Cabinet & Furniture Construction 1 offers students practical experience in building basic furniture and cabinetry. TMTH 110: Essentials of Building Mathematics supports students with the necessary math skills used in woodworking calculations and measurements. In Semester 2, students advance with IWWT 150: Woodworking Tools 2, which builds on tool proficiency and introduces more complex techniques. IWWT 151: Cabinet & Furniture Construction 2 continues with advanced construction projects. IWWT 152: Finishing 1 teaches surface preparation and the application of finishes to enhance and protect wood products. IWWT 153: Bending and Laminating Methods introduces specialized techniques used in curved and laminated components. IWWT 154: Basics of CAD introduces computer-aided design tools for woodworking applications. WRIT 108: College Reading and Writing Skills: Skilled Trades enhances communication skills in technical and workplace contexts. Together, these courses prepare students for entry-level roles or continued study in the Industrial Woodworking Technician diploma.
