COURSE CURRICULUM

The Carpentry and Renovation Techniques certificate program is organized into two semesters, combining both theoretical instruction and practical training to prepare students for careers in carpentry. In Semester 1, students take CARP 100: General Carpentry Safety, which focuses on essential safety practices for construction sites. CARP 101: Hand Tools introduces the correct use and maintenance of basic hand tools. CARP 102: Formwork and Concrete Structures provides instruction in working with concrete and structural formwork. CARP 103: Plans, Specifications, Codes and Revit teaches how to read and interpret construction documents and introduces Revit software for design. CARP 104: Carpentry Practice 1 gives students hands-on experience in basic carpentry tasks. WRIT 108: College Reading and Writing Skills: Skilled Trades develops communication skills specific to the skilled trades environment. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with CARP 150: Residential Framing, focusing on wood framing for residential buildings. CARP 151: Building Envelope covers exterior systems that protect structures from the elements. CARP 152: Power Tools and Equipment teaches safe and effective use of power tools. CARP 153: Estimating, Calculation and Layout introduces construction math and project estimation techniques. CARP 154: Carpentry Practice 2 continues with more advanced carpentry skills. The semester also includes GNED 101: An Introduction to Arts and Sciences, which broadens students’ general knowledge, and TMTH 110: Essentials of Building Mathematics, which strengthens essential math skills for the trade. Together, these courses prepare students for entry-level carpentry roles or further study in advanced programs.
