COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is structured to provide a comprehensive education that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience, preparing students for a successful career as registered nurses. In the first semester, students begin with foundational courses in anatomy and physiology, nursing profession introduction, psychology, and academic writing, alongside degree breadth electives. The second semester builds on this with advanced anatomy, therapeutic communication, clinical microbiology, ethics, and lifespan development. From the third semester onward, students engage deeply with nursing concepts across the lifespan, health assessment, pharmacotherapeutics, nursing theory, and pathophysiology, coupled with mandatory professional practicums that provide hands-on clinical experience. Critical inquiry, Indigenous determinants of health, and statistics are introduced in the fourth semester to broaden the understanding of health care complexities. Subsequent semesters focus on mental health, community nursing, relational inquiry, communication, health policy, and advocacy, along with continued practicums that enhance clinical skills. The program culminates in leadership, ethics, and integrated professional practicum courses during the final semesters, ensuring students are well-prepared for the realities of nursing practice. Humber’s access to state-of-the-art labs and diverse practicum placements across healthcare settings in the Greater Toronto Area gives students a competitive advantage, equipping them to provide safe, ethical, and evidence-based care while advocating for patients and communities at local, national, and global levels.
