COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences program at Humber spans eight semesters and combines rigorous academic coursework with hands-on laboratory experience to prepare students for careers or further education in the biomedical field. In Semester 1, students build foundational knowledge through courses in biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, and research writing. Semester 2 continues with anatomy, advanced biology and chemistry, and an elective in science and society or physics II, along with a breadth elective. Semester 3 introduces organic chemistry, biostatistics, immunology, and human physiology, along with another elective. In Semester 4, students delve into biochemistry, microbiology, and organic chemistry II, supported by two additional breadth electives. Semester 5 emphasizes applied skills through lab techniques, biopharmaceutical science, global biomedical trends, communications, and one elective. Semester 6 includes applied epidemiology, genetics, ethics and legal issues in biomedical sciences, regenerative medicine, and professional preparation, plus a breadth elective. This semester also includes a mandatory field experience, providing real-world exposure in a biomedical setting. Semester 7 focuses on advanced topics such as histopathology, genomics and proteomics, biomanufacturing, and a capstone project, with one elective. In the final semester, students complete a thesis project and take courses in knowledge translation, bioinformatics, and biomedical forensic sciences, alongside a final elective. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, emphasizing critical thinking, scientific research, ethics, and innovation in biomedical sciences. Students graduate with a deep understanding of biological systems, laboratory techniques, emerging technologies, and the societal impacts of biomedical research, equipping them for roles in healthcare, research, or entry into graduate or professional programs such as medical, dental, or pharmacy school.
